Curriculum Planning

Since my school is just beginning their Spanish program. I am building it up over the next six years. I based my ideas for this first year on the PYP planners that the kindergarten teachers are using.

This is the first planner: WHO WE ARE. I aligned my curriculum with the central idea. This way students are receiving the information in the same central idea that they are studying in their general education classroom.

One of the struggles of building up a program is that I will be teaching the same basic ideas to all grade levels. The older students will receive more vocabulary words. The activities that are used will vary depending on the level of the students. I hope to teach these ideas during the time frame of the first planner. As I learn more about the other planners, I hope to build my first year.

With each student learning the same information, I will not need to teach this to most students next year. The students in kindergarten will still learn this information, but the students in 1st through 5th grade will learn the information that aligns with the 1st grade planners. Of course, some of this information will be review. After 6 years, the program will be in full swing, with each grade level learning about Spanish that is specific to their planners for the PYP!
